17. APPROVAL OF THE BOOKER MIDDLE SCHOOL MENTORING GROUP'S FIELD TRIP TO WASHINGTON, D.C. ON MAY 23, 2007 THROUGH MAY 27, 2007 Description The Booker Middle School mentoring group have been invited to participate in a hands-on historically relevant educational experience through daily tours and activities as well as journal reflections. Students will have a better overall knowledge and awareness of our nation's historical and cultural foundation.
Recommendation That the Booker Middle School mentoring group's field trip to Washington, D.C., on May 23, 2007 through May 27, 2007 be approved. 18. APPROVAL OF THE VENICE HIGH SCHOOL LIFE SCIENCE COMMUNITY FIELD TRIP TO COSTA RICA ON MARCH 23, 2007 THROUGH APRIL 1, 2007 Description
The Costa Rica Global Classroom Project is directly aligned with State Performance Standards in Ecology, Zoology, Spanish, Art and Earth Science. Students will be given an opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned inside the classroom in a real world setting. They will see the wildlife and ecological principals they have been studying, and be able to use the Spanish they have learned in the classroom to communicate with native Spanish-speakers.
Recommendation That the Venice High School Life Science Community field trip to Costa Rica, on March 23, 2007 through April 1, 2007, be approved. 19. APPROVAL OF THE SARASOTA HIGH SCHOOL FIELD TRIP TO NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK ON MARCH 12, 2007 THROUGH MARCH 16, 2007 Description
Attending students involved in Yearbook, Graphic Design and Newspaper classes will be given the opportunity to attend workshops ranging from how to design your book and how to sell it. The students will be provided hands on learning experiences in computer design, and creative experiences in writing.
Recommendation That the Sarasota High School field trip to New York City, New York, on March 12, 2007 through March 16, 2007, be approved. EXPULSIONS
20. EXPULSION CASE NO. 07-174 Description The student listed in Expulsion Case No. 07-174, is in violation of an accepted Expulsion Settlement agreement for alternative school placement. On November 29, 2006, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 07-174, violated School Board Policy 5.34(1)(d), Battery on another Student. It is the recommendation of the Superintendent that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County schools until December 31, 2007.
Recommendation That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No. 07-174, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools be approved effective immediately for the remainder of the 2006-2007 academic year, the 2007 summer session until December 31 of the 2007-2008 academic year. 22. APPROVAL TO AWARD BID #7038 FOR BOOKS AND EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS Description Bids to provide 'Books and Educational Materials' were received from 18 vendors on December 19, 2006. The bids of Baker & Taylor, Inc., Barnes & Noble, Inc., Brodart Company by Nubro, Inc., General Partner and Waldenbooks-Southgate were the best low bids meeting the advertised specifications. This bid is for a period of one year with the option to renew for two additional one-year periods. The funds for these purchases are contained in the operating budgets of the schools and departments.

24. APPROVAL OF THE BILL OF SALE TO SARASOTA COUNTY FOR THE WASTEWATER COLLECTION SYSTEM AT RIVERVIEW HIGH SCHOOL - PORTABLES Description
Sarasota County land development regulations require the ownership of the utility systems be vested with the County. This item authorizes the transfer of title of these facilities to Sarasota County. The School Board attorney has reviewed and approved this Bill of Sale.

The architect has prepared the Certificate of Substantial Completion and the final punch list. The project is substantially complete in accordance with the contract documents. A copy of the final punch list is available for review at the Construction Services Department.

The scope of work for this amendment shall provide for architectural and engineering design services for the floor replacement and renovation of 6,750 square feet of the first floor of the 1926 historic classroom building. This work encompasses a redesign of the administration and instructional area of the first floor (which will be entirely reconstructed) and design of the replacement system for the entire floor structure on the first floor due to deterioration of the existing wood joist floor system. All existing electrical plumbing systems under the existing floor will also be replaced to bring them up to current building code and life/safety requirements. Funds for this amendment are available in the project budget account.

The recommended professionals have submitted annual request for certification by the School Board to provide professional construction related services for Sarasota County School Board projects. These submissions are in accordance with School Board policy #7.71. The initial list was Baord approved 10/3/2006 (Item #23). The newly added firms are identified, on the enclosure, at the end of the initial listing and are in bold print. Upon Board approval, the pertinent data from these submissions will be incorporated to the existing list.
Recommendation That Update #3 to the 2006-2007 Annual Certification of Professionals for Construction Related Services be approved as presented. Attachment: BAIenc2-6-07Update3AnnualCe.pdf 28. APPROVAL OF ARCHITECT'S CONTRACT FOR THE LAKEVIEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - HVAC RENOVATION PROJECT Description
The scope of work shall include design and construction administration services to renovate the HVAC systems including new chiller(s) and pumps, thermal energy storage system, piping, air side systems, and electrical distribution at the referenced campus. Also included is the sealing of the perimeter of the attic space with an air barrier to create a non-ventilated attic, paint, carpet, paving, and replacing the SOMAT with a dishwashing machine. On 1/16/2007 (Item #22), the Board authorized negotiations with the top-ranked firm. On 1/18/2007, the Director of Construction Services and two (2) members of the Professional Services Selection Committee (PSSC) met with a representative from The Maddox Group to negotiate a contract for this project. The contract amount is as follows: the basic services fee shall be 8.4% of construction costs, which are estimated to be $3,500,000.00, which produces an estimated fee of $294,000.00. The contract also includes an allowance of $24,500.00 for additional services, which may or may not be required. The estimated fee and additional services figures produce a total contract amount of $318,500.00. The School Board attorney has approved this contract. A copy of the contract is available for review at the Construction Services Department. The project budget is approximately $3,710,000.00. Funds for this project are available in the capital budget account.
Recommendation That the architect's contract for the Lakeview Elementary School - HVAC Renovation project be approved as presented. 29. APPROVAL OF RANKING OF CONSTRUCTION MANAGERS FOR THE LAKEVIEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - HVAC RENOVATION PROJECT Description

New Business31. APPROVAL OF PHASE III DRAWINGS FOR THE MIDDLE SCHOOL "EE" PROJECT Description
The estimated cost for this construction at Phase III is $38,000,000.00. The design includes the latest career tech instructional model and will meet the June 2008 project completion date. Funds for this project are available in the capital projects budget. These drawings are available for review at the Construction Services Department and one-half hour prior to the Board meeting.
Recommendation #31-That the Phase III Drawings for the Middle School "EE" project be approved as presented. 32. ACCEPTANCE OF GUARANTEED MAXIMUM PRICE PROPOSAL AND APPROVAL OF CONTRACT FOR CONSTRUCTION FOR THE MIDDLE SCHOOL "EE" - PHASE 1: SITEWORK PROJECT Description
Under the terms of the 11/8/2006 (Item #28), Board approved "Agreement between Owner and Construction Manager for Pre-Construction and Bidding Services", the Director of Construction Services and a member of the Professional Services Selection Committee (PSSC) have successfully negotiated a contract with Kraft Construction Company, Inc. for the Middle School "EE" - Phase 1: Sitework project. As indicated, the 11/8/2006 agreement included pre-construction and bidding services only. The contract for construction is being negotiated in two (2) phases in order for the project to remain on schedule for an August 2008 school opening. This Contract for Construction is only for Phase 1: Sitework of the project. This contract was negotiated on January 25, 2007, and this contract amount is $8,325,749.00. The Contract for Construction for Phase 2: Vertical Construction of the project will be negotiated separately at a later date and the estimated cost for that portion of the work is $32,000,000.00. This contract, which is the standard document utilized for all of the District's construction contracts, is available for review at the Construction Services Department. The School Board attorney has approved the use of this GMP proposal acceptance form and contract. Funds for this contract are available in the project budget account.
Recommendation #32-That the Guaranteed Maximum Price Proposal be accepted as presented and the Contract for Construction of Phase 1: Sitework for the Middle School "EE" project be approved as presented. The Design Team's estimated total project cost for the Riverview High School project is $134,112,000.00. The drawings are available for review at the Construction Services Department and one-half hour prior to the Board meeting.
Recommendation #33-That the Design Development Phase II Drawings for the Riverview High School project be approved as presented. 34. APPROVAL TO PROCEED WITH THE PLANNING, DESIGN, DRAWINGS, BUDGET DEVELOPMENT, AND, IN THE CASE OF THE TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL, THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE SCHENKEL SHULTZ CONCEPT OF THE SARASOTA COUNTY TECHNICAL CENTER Description On January 9, 2007, staff from the School Board's Construction Department and from Schenkel Shultz Architecture presented a conceptual plan for the future of the Sarasota County Technical Center to be constructed on the campus of the current SCTI. The presentation includes a rough site layout, a phased construction timeline, and an initial budget estimate. The Board supported the concept and directed staff to move forward with the plan. This motion formalizes that action.
Recommendation #34-That the Board direct the Superintendent of Schools to proceed with the planning, design, drawings, budget development, and, in the case of the technical high school, the construction, of the Schenkel Shultz concept of the Sarasota County Technical Center as presented at the January 9, 2007 Board Workshop.
